PROHIBITION SPLIT.
THE N.S.W. REFERENDUM.
(BY CAJ3LE—-PHESS ASBOCI4TIOS COPYEIGBT.)
SYDNEY, December 5
Another cleavage is reported in the Prohibition camp over the date of the referendum. The Rev. J. G. Hammond contends that the recent agreement was reached on a basis of a referendum at the end of 1925.
The Alliance refuses to agree to a later date, and if unable to get that it will insist on an immediate referendum in accordance with pre-election promises.
The Hon. T. J. Ley (Minister of Justice) explains that it was not stipulated in the recent agreement that the referendum be taken in 1925, but when th work of the Reductions Board was completed, which may be in five years. If that period could be reduced the referendum would be taken earlier.
