POLITICS IN N.S.W

AVERTING A CRISIS. \ (iaOH OCR OWN CORBESPONDEHT.) SYDNEY, November 29. ] Disgruntled politicians who had gone round like roaring lions growling and snarling at Sir George Fuller and his Government were as tamo iittlo lambs tho oilier day when it came to the test, and when there was the immediate prospect of dissolution and another election, always distasteful to politicians. In the crisis, arising out of the vote against the Government on the consideration of the Valuer-General's estimates, there appeared to be all the elements of a first-class political situation, but the Government supporters mlio had assisted to defeat the Ministry on a snap vote, crossed the floor w lien the real test came, and so all is well onqe more. Sir George Fuller has soothed his refractory supporters by a promise to investigate thoroughly tho Valuer-General's Department, in order to ascertain whether or not injustice has been done by it. Ending as it has the v.iiole thing has been a bit of a joke in the public eye. Sir George Fuller is not very happy- all trie same. On one side ho iinds the Progressives, an uncertain quantity, and on the other disgruntled Nationalists, and across the floor of the House is the Labour opposition. He is between Scyiia and Charybdis. The Ministerial victory is a good thing for Labour, which, in its present divided state, and in view of recent ballot box disclosures and allegations, would bo courting defeat at an election. Until Labour settles its differences, and cleanses itself of its extremist element, it is likely to be on the "outer."
