WATER SUPPLY ON CASHMERE HILLS.

It ia fortunate that this did not happen in a month'* time, when tho grass would to dry everywhere, otherwise the fully realise practically ©very house on tho hill would hnvo been burnt, On trying to got satisfaction from tho Heathcoto County Council, in Mast Chester street, we are told that they know nothing about it, but will mak9 enquiries, Dyer's Pass has been witb» out wator Sunday, Monday, and thiq morning at 9 o'clock there was stiU no water. One can imagine hew the school children are faring in thin severe weather with neither water ta drink nor wash ia. One can also imag, ino the condition of tho sanitary cr» rangements, It is a matter that the Health Department should make soma enquiry into. In the meantime the members of the Heathcoto Council seem to bo do«ng in the sun. The only member who seems to be doing anything to rectify the matter is Mr Searff.~-YonM, etc., CASHMEBB HILLS, Christchurch, December 4th. A representative of "The Press" made enquiries of Mr W. Scarff, chair, man of the Heathcote County Council, and was furnished with the following explanation:—There is an adequato supply of water now. The. ahortago was due mainly to the fire on Saturday night, which emptied the top reservoir, and in a lesser measure to the abnorm' ally dry spell.
