LESS POWER REQUIRED
(BT CABLE—rp.ESS ASSOCIATION' — (AUSTBALIAM AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.)
(Received December fth, 9 p.m.)
LONDON, December 3.
At the annual meeting of the Marconi ■Wireless Company, Signor Marconi stated that the new system, of directional wireless communication had been successfully tested between England and the St. Vincent Islands, a distance of 2250 miles.
It necessitates only a fraction of tho electrical energy hitherto found necessary.
The company now owns 1600 patents, while applications for 4GO others aro pending.
Claims have been made against the Government in connexion with the uso of the company's patents, and Lord Buckmaster has been appointed to arbitrate.
[Speaking in London in June last, Signor Marconi touched on a series of important experiments in wireless telegraphy which he had just completed. He Baid:
"We transmitted messages over distances up to 2250 miles with much smaller power and at a faster rat© than ever before. We used less power, in sending more rapid messages between Cape Verde and than is sow being used between Pans and London. This was done by the more efficient production of waves. The discoveries ihean that long-clistance wireless stations in future will be built at a reduced cost; and the signals will be sent much more cheaply and faster than is now possible htv r the usual methods. The Press and the public will ultimately benefit by the reduced cllarges."]
