The report that the Duke of Mecklenburg is negotiating for the purchase of Dutch New Guinea is officially discredited in Federal circles, while the Netherlands Vice-Consul is inclined to regard the report as a joke. [A message published yesterday said that the Duke of Mecklenburg, 4 'a former ■Governor of Togoiand, recently visited Dutch New Guinea. It was rumoured that the object of his visit was to negotiate for the purchase of Dutch possessions there on 'behalf of the German Government.]
