The steamer Houtman brings news from the East Indies that th€< Duke of Mecklenburg, a former Governor of Togoland, recently visited Dutch New Guinea. It is rumoured that the object of his visit was to negotiate for the purchase of Dutch possessions there on behalf of the German Government. It is stated that there are many Germans located in the towns and islands adjacent to the Java coast.
