MT. HUTT ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. ft ~~ The monthly meeting of the Mt. Hutt Road Boaxd was -held yesterday. Present; Messrs A. T. Lilley,, W. I'. Ruddenklau, S. G; Holmes, John Watson, and T. S. Harrison. The Clerk reported that Mr "W. Brick had completed his shingling contract on the back track, and had made 'a most satisfactory job of it. Mr H. G. Ayers had completed his shingling contract and asked for more work of the >:s ae mature, which he was prepared x> do r.t a reasbnable price, as he wanted 1.0 keep liis men and teams in wk. _ . , ir, was decided to go on using the old pit until the shingle therein is exhausted before purchasing a, new pit, the stripping being left in the iiands of the chairman and Mr llarriison to make the best terms possible. A letter was received from Mr Kerioda regarding a deposit of £lO oi> account of a road purchased by Mr Watson from the Board, and asking that tnis sum be accepted in part payment Df the land. Messrs IX and W. K HamptonA. McNeill, H. Drummond and J. R. Dalton wrote asking the Board to shingle the road fronting their property. The Clerk was instructed to enquire into the matter and report to the Board. Application was made by Mr A«g us McLeod for permission to plough the rpad fronting his property for the purpose of eradicating gorse and undertaking to do the work to the satisfaction of the Board—Granted. The Clerk was instructed to interview several of the shingle contractors and insist on them breaking the large stones lately carted out on jthe roads. It was decided to allow Mr Ayers to go on shingling on the Mt. Hutt road from Blacklers' Corner towards Mt. Hutt at 4s 3d per yard, the shingle to be taken out of the storm water channel near Blacklers'. Mr Harrison reported that there were some very bad places on the road running from Mr A. McLeod's property towards Mr A. Hart's, and something was required to be done at this point urgently. The Board decided that steps be taken to compel Mr A. M. Hart to clear gorse and broom from hlis road frontages. It was decided to have several chains of shingling done on. the Ashburton road from Cleeve's Crossing towards Ashburton. Mr Holmes said that he would prefer this work to be done even if it meant deferring of the shingling of Racecourse and Carr's roads for the time being. Mr Watson brought up the question of very high grading on the MethvenAshburton road, and moved that the grading be done from fence to fence and 22 yards to the chain of shingle put thereon. The motion was carried. Mr A. S, Imdlay made application to the Board through the chairman to have repairs done to a fence surrounding a shingle pit on his property which had been damaged by tne Board's employees. The Clerk asked for instructions regarding the sale of cocksfoot on the Board's roads this year. It was decided to offer this on December 13th at the Methven sale.
