RUGBY. TO-DAY'S REPRESENTATIVE MATCH. To-day's match should draw a large crowd of Rugby followers to Lancaster Park where the Town v. Country game will be played on the Oval. As these teams represent the pick of Canterbury players a good exhibition of Rugby should be seen. Included m both teams are a number of last year 6 Canterbury representatives. In view of thedisttlav bv the Country team at Lancaster Park last Wednesday, it would be difficult to predict the result of to-day's gaiue. Owing to injuries and sickness, some or the plavers picked to represent the lown are unable to play. J. M'Cabe will replace A. Robiliiard at wing tliree-quarter K. Kirwan will replace P. at halt-back, and L. Peterson and E. Cochrane (forwards) are replaced by J. Burrows and 0. Turpin respectively. There may be other changes, but as far as is known at present the team for to-day will be: Full-back—J. Harris (Old Boys. Three-quarter?—,T. McCabe (Merivale), E. Fitzgerald (Marists), W. CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. The iManagement Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met laet night. Present: Messrs S. F. Wilson (president), A. Duggau, E. V. Phillips, W. Maxwell, G. P. Payne, C. S. McCully, W. Britten, A. Lay, R. H. North, .K. Beattie, R. W. Britton, A. E. McPhail, H. Davis, C. W. Aliiird and Dr. W. S. Seed. The Linwood Ciub wrote requesting permission to play a junior return match, Linwood v. ItaJcata on Lanoaster Park as a curtain raiser to a representative match. Permission was granted to play on July 21st, on a ground otiier than tho Oval. It was decided to seud nineteen players on the northern tour, and twenty on the West Coast tour. Three matches will be played on the former tour and live on the latter. Each team will be accompanied by a manager and a selector. Mr J. C. Oldridge, licensee of the Caie de Paris Hotel, wrote expressing appreciation of the behaviour of the members of the country teams who stayed at the hotel last week. Mr Bay: The world is turning back. Mir Payne: They were a very gentlemanly lot of fellows —as fine a crow J as I have seen. The letter was received. The Canterbury Hockey Association wrote requesting to be allowed the use of Lancaster Park on July 14th to play tho match Canterbury v. Wellington. The letter stated that the ground would also bo required on the following Saturday, should the match be won by Canterbury, to play Auckland, on the date of the Maori-Canterbury representative match. Permission was requested to play on the latter date at 1.45 p.m. The request was granted. Mr E. Steans, referee in tho Sydeniham-Lyttelton-Albion junior grade match on Saturday, wrote stating that he had ordered K. Mc Donald, a Lyttelton player, off the ground for wilfully striking an opponent. The referee attended the meeting and answered questions as to the player's action. He considered that the player had struck back in retaliation. The ohairman stated that a.n official of the Albion Club had informed him over the telephone that he understood it was oorrect that McDonald had been struck first. It was decided to hold the matter over until the player concerned appeared Before tho Union. An application from the Marists Club to reinstate a player from the fourth to the fifth grade was refused. The secretary of the Wesley Club wrote with respect to two players who had played for the Sydenham-Lyttelton and the Christchurch clubs while still members of the Wesley club. The letter was reoeived, and it was decided to point out thatj the onus was on the club to comply with the rules. The Otago Union wrote stating that August 18th would be aoceptable &s the diate of the Otago-Canterbury junior representative match at Christchurch, and requesting that accommodation should be arranged for the players. It was deoided to send 17. players on tour to play in the junior representative match with Wellington on July 21st. It was also decided that a manager and a junior selector should go with the team. Mr R. Britton was appointed manager. / On the recommendation of the Competitions Committee, it was deoided to allow the Linwood third grade A team to withdraw from the competition. It was decided that the seven-a-side tournament postponed from June 3rd should be played on August 11th. . Mr North was' requested to arrange for a school boys' match to be played as a curtain-raiser to the Canterbury-Maori representative match on It was decided to make the necessary arrangements to accommodate the Manawatu representative team of 20 players and a manager, to play on September 12th. The chairman stressed the need of only sound men being taken on tour with the travelling teams to play representative matches. A motion was carried that it be » recommendation to the selectors that no man who was unavailable for the Northern iouT should be considered w available for the West Coast tour, the selectors being also u\structed that only sound players should be seleoted, and that, if necessary, players should be medically examined. A further motion was carried as a reoommendation to the selectors that no man should be selected to represent the Province who absented himself from training without reasonable "excuse.

The chairman said that the time had passed when players who absented themselves from training should be considered. The publio of Canterbury will weloome the news that the Canterbury Rugby Football Union is again to tho fore m assisting what may be considered one of the most worthy causes in Canterbury. The whole of the net proceeds of Rugby Football matches next Saturday will be allooated to the _ various Orphanages, controlled by -local organisations. All denominations will participate. It is hoped that the public will respond heartily. A street 3ale of tickets will be held to-day to give everyone, an opportunity of helping the orphans. Last year the --'Union was successful in raising nearly four hundred pounds, which was allocated to the Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund for New Zealand blind, and the Nurse Maud Association.
