ST. ALBANS LIBRARY.

ANNUAL MEETING OF SUBSCRIBERS. The 56th annual meeting of subscribers to the St. Albans Public Library was held last evening, Mr A. C. Wilson presiding over an attendance of 16. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed receipts to have been £632 lSs lid, including a balance of £lO7 12s 5d brought forward. The expenditure had been. £197 Is 7d, leaving a balance of £437 17s 4d. The recreation room account- sh'owed a balance of £ll 13a. Tile assets, including £lll 9s 9d iu the bank, were set down at i'jii os and the liabilities were £l4 7s Bd. lie book account showed 3317 books on hand at June 30th, valued at £248 las 6d. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr J. Lorimer; vice-president, Mr A. C. Wilson; honorary secretary, Mr H. E. Powell; honorary treasurer, Mr F. W. Simons; auditors, Mr A. Pearson and another to be elected by the committee; committee, Miss M. Gilliinders, Miss A. E. Bussel and Messrs W. Coornbes, G. T. Grover, G. Hillesdon, L. L. Boot, A. Simon, A. Knight, W. Pearce, C. Green, A. E. T. Williams, T. Robinson, J. Hamilton, J. Sutherland, and W. Earwaker. r Votes of thanks were accorded the committee and officers, and an honorarium was granted to the secretary for his work in the interests of the library.^ The question of opening the libtnry every evening was briefly discussed, and it was decided that there should be no change in the present arrangement—namely that the library be open four nights a week.
