POULTRY SHOW.

NORTH CANTERBURY SOCIETY. The Norifh Canterbury Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Club's twenty-fifth annual show was opened at the Rangiora Drill Hall yesterday* The number of exhibits, 758, is quite equal to any previous show held under ordinary conditions, but fewer than last year, when the entries were substantially above the average in number owing to the pigeon section being made a special feature in honour of the presence of the English judge, Mr C. A. House. The classes for the more popular breeds of poultry were well tilled, and in all the main sections of the siiow the quality of the exhibits loses nothing by comparison with the high standard of the club's previous shows. There was particularly strong competition in the utilitv classes, especially in Leghorns and Orpingtons. Ihe pigeons made an attractive show, and the birds were of all-round good quality. Competition, however, was confined to three or four of the best-known fanciers. Amongst an entry of thirty-one canaries, there were some nice exhibits, but hero too. competition was confined to but few exhibitors. There was a very good display of potatoes and roots, and, as on previous occasions ; the Rangiora High School was again prominent, the attractively arranged collectioni of the school farm products being the feature of the section. , , In the fruit section several varieties of very fine apples were shown, mostly from the commercial orchards in the neighbourhood of Rangiora. The honey industry was also well represented, and there was, an interesting show of fancy work and art, cate will be added to the exhibits. As usual the officials performed their duties with commendable efficiency, the secretarial work being again in the capable hands of Mr W. T. Wikon. The judges were:—Poultry, Messrs T. Kennedy, J. Tindall, and C. W. Bell; pigeons, Mr W. Fraser; Canaries, Mr R.W.Thompson; fancy work, Mrs Kesteven ; art and photography, Mr W. Greene; potatoes and roots,! Mr A. W. Adams; fruit, Mr L. Painter; home products, Mrs H. J. Fleming; honey, Mr A.. Sillifant. The show will be open again to-day, when cats will be added to the .exhibits. • Following is the prize list:— POULTRY CLASSES.
