SOUTH CANTERBURY HUNT.
w (9PKCIAI. TO "THB PBESg.') TIMARU, July 6. A meeting of the South Canterbury Hunt was hold to-day, the Master, Mr 0. L. Orbell, presiding over a good attendance. Mr R. H. Aldworth wrote accepting the position of judge at the Hunt Meeting on Jnly 29th. Mr P. D. Freeman accepted the position of starter, and Mr W. B. Freeman as clerk of the coarse. The chairman stated that tho Waimale Hunt Meeting had been very successful. Ten Timaru members had attended, and the attendance from Timaru would have been much larger but for sickness. Tho proposed combined meeting with the Ohristchurch Hunt, in the Ashburtoh district, he wa3 sorry to say, had /alien through. He referred to the proposal that would come before tho Racing Conference, to the effect that three hunters' races and a hack ani hunters' race should replace the four hunters' races in the present Hunt Club's programme. It was decided that the delegate should be instructed to protest strongly against tha alteration of tho rule. The question of qualification came up for discussion. The rule stated that horses, in order to qualify for hunters' races, should attend five meets. In other hunts this rule was not being enforccd ; said the chairman, and horses wero obtaining qualification certificates from masters without having properly qualified. Some of the masters were very slack. He referred to a horse in Auckland which had won two hunters' races and had never seen ft fence until ten days before the meeting. He would like to see tho matter taken up. It was decided to vote £ls 15s towards tho Rhodes Hunt Challenge Cup Jumping Competition, held by tho Timaru A. and P. Association. The following Judiciary Committee was elected for the coming meeting::—Messrs H. Lowry, H. F. Keale, J. Msze, A. S. Elworthy, and B. It. Macdonald. Messrs C. L. Orbell and E". Elwcrth7 were appointed an Entertainment Committee. The balance-sheet for the I'oint-to-Point Meeting showed o credit balance of £23. The chairman stated that the Ball Committee was going ahead with its arrangements. The Unitarian Hall had been secured. He would like to see as many members as possible wearing the buff facings at the ball. The following new members wero elosted:—Miss Guinness, Messrs J. W. Quested, U. Kaxx, & DoniU, and S. BaCMta,
