MAGISTERIAL. SATURDAY. (Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined 10s, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. JUVENILE CASES. Two boys, aged 13 years and 1* years, were charged with the theft of two electric torches, the property of W. H. Tisdall, Ltd., and of one torch, valued at is Gd, the pioperty of Turnbull and Jones. Detective Sergeant Connolly said the boys went'into the shop on the pretence of buying a knife, and while they were there they took the toiches. One of the boys, who had been •thrashed by his parents, was admonished and discharged. Sentence was postponed for' a menth on the other, in order that he might be placed in a suitable home. His mother is dead, and his father, who was present, said that he was away working all day. Two boys, both aged 14 years, pleaded guilty to live charges of theft, which involved three bicycles valued at £ll, four sacks valued at 4s. and a pair of pliers and a screw-driver valued at 6s. They were further charged with having wilfully damaged two lavatory locks valued at £7 10s, the property of the New Brighton Borough Council. Senior Sergeant Lewim said the boys escaped from the Industrial School, and were at liberty for three davs. They had only obtained 3d from the panny-in-the-slot lavatory locks, which had been forced open. The three bicycles had been recovered, but the Ba cks had been sold to a dealer. The Magistrate recommended that the lads should be given a sound thrashing.
