SECOND ROUND. IPho second round of the Canterbury Hookey Association's competitions was played on Saturday. Despite the threatening weather in the morning, fine weather set in in the afternoon, and with the exception of hea.if grounds, conditions were excellent. SENIOR GRADER Sel-wyn (6) v. St. Albans (2). Selwyn met St. Albans at Lancaster Park, and alter having the best of the game right through, won by six goals to two. tit. Albans were minus their usual goalkeeper, iruxton, F. Faulkner occupying the position between the posts. Selwyn attacked strongly for too fast quarter of an hour, and the St. Albans backs were severely tested. Manoney commenced a promising movement by transferring across to Squires, whose centre was fielded by Faulkner, but W. Bell rushed the hall into the net before the goaiio had time to clear. St. Albans retaliated with a .strong effort, and Killoh being slow, were~nearly through, but Morris cut in and aaved cleverly. Selwyn returned down "the left, only to find Faulkner safe, and a clear to the line well upfleld relieved the pressure. From the roll in Hale received a nasty blow on the eye and was foroed to retire for a spell. Selwyn regained possession and Hore headed a left.wing attack which was cleared by Faulkner, but the Chocolates were .not to be denied, and a solid rush ended in S. Bell adding to the score with a hot shot. Selwyn kept upru the attack, and Faulkner was given plenty of work, and performed very creditably. St. Albans made a brief but solid rally, and managed to pierce the Selwyn defenoe, but Wbodfield's shot was stopped by McCaffrey. , Selwyn were once more in possession, and a passing rush by Squires and the. Bell brothers enabled W. Bell to score with an easy shot. St. Albanß held their opponents at bay for a spell, until Hill passed neatly to S. Bell in midfield. The latter made a (fine run, which culminated in Faulkner bein? drawn, and Bell scoring an easy goal. St. Albans gained gTound by good passing between Hale and Woodfield, only do bo stopped by Morris and Mohonoy. McFarlane set the St. Albans forwards moving by a transfer to Hill, and the Selwyn scoring area wps reached, but Hale's shot was fielded by McCaffrey, and a corner resulted. Half-time came with the score: Selwyn 4, St. Albans 0. The second spell was more even,-and St. Albans managed to hold their own. On resuming, play was fairly even for a, while. fc>t. Albans were the first to break away and Holland and Hill initiated a passing rush, which was broken up by Hore. These teams met at Sydenham Park, where Sydenham won by the narrow margin of one goal. The game opened by Sydenham attaching, persistently for ten minutes, and Taylor succeeded in netting the ball. I The annual meeting of the Malvern Ladies' Hockey Sub-Association was held on Thursday at the residence of Mrs Jarnran, Darfield. . The annua] report was presented by the secretary, Mr F. Culleh. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £1 Gs. Both reports were favourably received and adopted. The election of officers resulted as foltows: Patron, Mr Bobert Beid; presidenvwr H. C. Townshend; vice-presidents, Messrs C. H. Adams, D. Gillanders, W. Stott, A. Ironsides. Mrs F. Cullen was re-elected secretary and treasurer. The following decisions were agreed to: — That the season for competition matches should commence on Saturday, May 6th; that all names of players and registration fees must reach the secretary before Saturday, May sth; that, aM clubs playing in the Association's competitions must provide goal nets; that the appointment of the referee must.be made by the home playing team.
