The erection of a statue to American soldiers in Paris is being delayed over a question of etiquette. The model of the statue shows American and French soldiers shaking hands with their gloves on. Major Mercadier, the secretary of the memorial, has written to the subscribers suggesting that the design of the statue should be altered on the ground that in America and England it is considered bad manners to shake hands with gloves on. A lively controversy has arisen in the course of which it has transpired that Prance '.is the only country where etiquette allows men to shake hands with gloves on, and opinion generally seems to be in favour of changing the French fochioik
