PRINCE OF WALES.
STATE VISIT TO - BRUSSELS (BT CABLS—PBESS ASSOCIATTOIf—COJYKIOHT.) (AtTSTBALIAir AKD S.Z. CABLK ASSOCIATION.) (Eeceived April 29th, 5.5 p.m.) BRUSSELS, April 27. The Prince of Wales arrived on a State visit to the King and Queen of the Belgians, in the cruiser Caledon. The Prince of Wales received an ovation from a great crowd at the railway station as he drove away with King Albert. The city was en fete. The route to the palace was gaily decorated with British and Belgian flags, and the buildings were illuminated. The ehief official function was the unveiling of a statue erected by Britain near the Palais de Justice in grateful recognition of Belgium's part in the war. After the unveiling the Prince of "Wales dßlivered a short address, and massed bands played the national anthems of Britain and Belgium..
BRITISH MONUMENT UNVEILED. (Received April 29th, 11.5 p.m.) BRUSSELS, April 28. The Prince of Wales, when unveiling the British Memorial in the presence of a huge crowd, asked King Albert to accept, on behalf of his subjects, a monument offered by the British nation symbolising Britain's profound and -unalterable gratitude towards those who nuccoured her prisoners of war and distressed soldiers. The monument would perpetuate the memory of a glorious brotherhood in arms. The King, replying, said Belgium would never forget the sublime sacrifices of the British soldiers .who made the Ypres salient an unahakeable bastion in the AUied line. The monument would forever illustrate the heroism of the British race. The Prince of Wales was given a banquet at the Palace. King Albert thanked the British Empire' for the monument, which was a reaffirmation of a long-standing friendship on whioh Belgium could always rely. •He described the Prince of Wales as an incomparable ambassador of his country, linking the peoples of the Empire. New Zealand on her world cruise in 1913, and during the first two years of the war, and who accompanied the Prince of Wales as naval equerry on his visits to Canada, Australia and New Zealand and India and Japan.]
