TAXI STRIKES TRAM.

FOUR MEN INJURED. As the result of a motor accident on the Papanui road, about 8.45 last night, three men are now lying injured in the Christchurch Hospital. Their names arc: —Francis McTeigue, of '2v.& Antigua street, Christchurch, and William Dermott and* ". Garrett, of Balcairn. With Edwin Garrett, a brother of J. Garrett, the three men were travelling from Christchurch to Balcairn in a five-seatcr Buick taxi-ear, McTeigue being tho driver. The taxi was running close to the tram-lines when, at the intersection of Papanui road with Church street, it ran into a No. 15 electric tram, driven by Motorman Cook.

The taxi suffered severely from tho impact, and all its occupants, with the exception of Edwin Garrett, were thrown out. Dr. Gerald Russell, whose consulting rooms are not very far from the scene of the accident, was communicated with, and arrived within a few minutes. He attendee, the injured men, three of whom were then taken to the Hospital in an ambulance in charge of Constable Miller. The fourth man, Edwin Garrett, was treated in Dr. Russell's rooms, a number of stitches being inserted in his jaw, which was badly cut. Dermott was the most seriously injured. He was picked up in an unconscious condition, and was still unconscious late last night. J. Garrett received injuries to his head, but was not seriously hurt, while MeTeigue had his left forearm badly cut with broken glass. The front portion of the taxi was smashed by the collision, and one of the wheels was badly knocked about and displaced. Being unable to proceed tinder its own power, the taxi was pushed clear of the line by a number of men, and u now lying in a nearby garaga.
