CORONATION HOSPITAL.

SEND-OFF TO DR. AND MRS * KIDD.

Dr. A. Kidd, who was for two and a half years assistant to Dr. Blackmore at Cashmere Hills Sanatorium, and has been appointed/ Medical Director of the new sanatorium at Waipiata (Central Otago), left yesterday to take up his new duties in the souui. Dt. Kiddi was principally connected with the lion iiiwjjitai, and on Tuesday evening, before Ins departure, he andj.Vl.rs. Kidd were entertained by the patients and staff of that institution. Among the visitors it the gatnering were Matron Benjamin and iSister Macionald (late of the Sanatorium) and Mrs Blackmore. The following members of a concert party, arranged by Mrs J. C. Holmes, contributed items:—Mrs McLaren, Miss Dyer, Mss Ivy Manchester (songs), Mr Berryman ('cello solo), and Mrs King and Mr Cook (accompanists). At the conclusion of the concert Mr W. J. Dobbs, on behalf of the patients, said good-bye to Dr. Kidd and Mrs Kidd,»hnd welcomed back D*r. I. Mclntyre, who succeeds Dr. Kidd. The speaker congratulated_ Dr. Kidd on his appointment, and said that while it was gratifying that his splendid qualifications had been recognised, it was a matter of regret to all that they had to part with him. He had always upheld the dignity of his profession and position, and carried out his duties with strict fairness and impartiality, but, withal, every act had been tempered with kindness, which was so essential a part of ..his'nature. It was this kindness on his part which so endeared him to the patients, and they could not allow him to go away without giving some expression of their grateful thanks for all he had done for them. On behalf of the staff and patients, the speaker wished Dr. and> Mrs Kidd good-bye and good luck, and said if Dr. Kidd's success at Waipiata was at all commensurate with their good wishes, he would make a big name for himself in the practice of his profession. In conclusion he wished them ©very happiness in. their now sphere of activities. Mr P. J. Dowd endorsed these remarks, and expressed the patients' kindly feeling towards Dr. and Mrs Kidd!

Dp. G. J. Blackmore said Dt. Kidd possessed all the attributes of a true n-cntleman. Every action of his bore the hallmark of kindness and courtesy, and there was little wonder that he had endeared himself so much to the hearts of the patients. He knew that all that the speakers had said of Dt. Kidds splendid qualities was true, and they were all going to feel Ifcr. Kidd's loss acutely. He wished I)j, and Mrs Kidd every success at Waipiata, and hoped l that their activiws would not obliterate from their mindfi aH memory of tile frien-ds they left behind them at Cpsbm?re Hills. .On behalf of the Satienis and domestic staff, he asked t. K : dd to accept a mission clock for himself and his wife, and a pocket wallet an<l fountain pen as a gift for himself. The nursirik staff bad also asked

him to present a brass candlestick as a small tokep of their' appreciation and regard;. * \ . Dr. Kidd said he felt quite incapable of expressing his thanks for the gifts bestowed upon him, and for the generous things that had been said. Both he and Mrs Kidd" felt the parting very much. The greatest consideration had always been shown towards them. It was a great privilege indeed for one to work under so able and .fine a gentleman as Dr. Blackmore. He thanked them one and all, and said he would always have a very kindly feeling for the patients and staff of the Coronation Hospital, where he .had spent two and a half, of the happiest years of his life. As Dr. and Mrs Kidd motored away from the Coronation Hospital yesterday morning the men patients lined the drive, one group showering roses into the car, and another giving them a "rattling" send-off with petrol tins, while the lusty cheering and singing of "They Are Jolly Good Fellows" showed that they all had good lung power.
