A DANGEROUS CORNER.

IMPROVEMENT AUTHORISED

A deputation from tho Automobile Association, consisting of Messrs Dobson, Hawker, Macartney, and Lochhead, met the members of the Ifiyro County Council by arrangement on Monday last at a bad turn in the Main Nortn .Road, about half a mile north of the Kmpiro bridge, to discuss tho best means of effecting improvements. The turn, a well-known source of danger to. Ideal motorists, and taken by them With caution, often proves a trap te strangers from the north, who, coming suddenly to the sharp turn on the culvert, fail to swerve sufficiently to keep on tho track, and consequently find themselves in a deep ditcn on the righthand side.

The proper method of solving the problem is" undoubtedly to widen the culvert and make the turn easier. J.'he suggestion made by the members of tho Automobile Association was not greeted with enthusiasm by tne members of the Council, who will have to foot the bill, nor was it pressed by the former, who felt that an improvement of such a substantial nature was really the duty of the Main Roads Board, who would receive revenue from (various sources for purposes such as this. After considerable discussion, the Council agreed to consider tho idea of improving the surface of the road at the turn, of banking up the roadside near the ditch, and erecting a strong fence along the dangerous side.
