A BOY DROWNED. (SPEC!.*! TO "THB PBESS."I , . GEEYMOUTE, December 9. William McMillan Was found drowned in Granity Creek on Thursr day. He. attended school and left to pick "gigies" and apparently .fell into the creek, his body being found, at 4.45 p.m. His parents reside at Millerton. Military Camp. Captain M. A. Stedman, of the Defence Department, Greyniouth, left by this morning's express en route to Burnham. Sergeant-Major Jordon (Greymouth) will leave for Burnham oh Tuesday and Sergeant-Major Allen (Greymouth) and Cuapelbow (Westport) on Thursday. They are to attend the course of instruction.
Blackball Band Disbanded. As a sequel to the Blackball mine stoppage, the Blackball Silver Band, owing to single members leaving the distriot, got below playing strength, and the committee has called in the instruments and handed these to the trustees, Messrs Watson and Guerden. The final meeting of the committee was held with Mr W. R. McDonald as chairman. The honorary secretary, Mr Guerden, in his report and balancesheet, showed that when the band was' re-organised there -were no funds and a smalT debit, but 'when the band is again re-organised, it will start with a credit balance of over £2O. Wet Weather. December so far has been very wet. Yesterday's rainfall was 2J inches, and to-day was also wet, all sports being abandoned. Personal. Mrs Cole, of the New Zealand Alliance, who has been on an extended official visit to the Coast, left by this morning's express for Christchurch. Votes of congratulations to Messrs H. E. Holland and J. O'Brien on their election to Parliament, were carried at the meeting of the Grey County Council.
