GRETNA GREEN SMITHY.
BEMOVAL THREATENED. LONDON, November 27. The historic smithy at Gretna Green, where the culminating scenes of many romantic elopements have been enacted, has been condemned by the County Council authorities as a danger to motorists. Hugh Macklin, the present blacksmith, refuses to be tempted by a large sum offered as compensation for the removal of the smithy. He declares ■that it is a necessity.
