ST. MARY'S BAZAAR.
The parishioners of St. Mary's, Manchester street, have for some time fast been working for their annual azaar, and this function was held on Saturday afternoon and evening in St. Mary's Memorial Hall. The hall, which was prettily decorated . with streamers entwined overhead and latticed across the windows, was linod with stalls, each with its own special colour scheme prettily worked out. There was an excellent attendance and the stall-holders were kept very busy during the afternoon and evening. Outside the hall various side-shows attracted a good deal of custom, and ! Derry's Band, which was in attend- ! ance, contributed several muwcal qel«ctions. In the evening a dance reoitat was given by Miss Macdonald J s talented young pupils. The bazaar was opened at 3 p.m. by Bishop Brodie, who was welcomed by i Father O'Connor, on behalf of Ahe ' clergy and parishioners of St. Mary's. Bishop Brodie expressed his delight at being present that afternoon, and said . that so worthy an object had his most generous wishes and enthusiastic desires for its success. He then formally declared the bazaar compiiment- , ing the parishioners and thanking them j for their efforts to maKe it a success. j The following is a list of the stalls: i Choir stall, surprise packets—Miss '. Young; New Brighton stall, sweets—- ! Mrs Sierakowski; Papanui-Marshlands ■ stall, cakes and produce—Miss O'Con- ! nor; plain and fancy sewing stall—j Committee of the Children of Marj. j Afternoon tea, which was served in ! the lounge at small tables daintily de- [ corated with pale pink sweet peas in j silver vases, was in charge of the Altar ! : Society. A large and heavily laden j Tree was in charge of Miss j I Cosgrove. j I The bazaar, which was organised by * \ Messrs Roach and Baker, and is in aid } j of funds to be devoted to enlarging the ' Presbytery, will be opened again to- . day and to-morrow.
