RIFLE SHOOTING.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. The first annual (Championship rifle meeting of the Canterbury. Rifle Association was held on. the range at Bedoliffs on Saturday. The weather conditions in the ! morning were ideal lor shooting, but towards noon the sky became overcast, and the lain i later on caused a cessation for ths day. ; Four matches were got off in the couise of the day, in addition to a miniature match. The meeting will conclude to-day with tAe Peninsula Match, 700 yds, the South Canterbury Match, Ciiajnpion Grand Aggregate, 700 yds, the Champion Teams Mabcii, and a Service Match (rapid fire at 200 yds). Colonel B. V.u., acted as chief range olfioer for tlie meeting, assisted by Captain Heed and Lieutenant Daviea. Owing to the smaliness of the entries, the prize money, previously based on an entry of 100, was reduced 50 per cent. Results of Saturday's matches aire as follows: SERVICE MATCH. MTNIATUEE BIFLE MATCH. The miniature rifle match, under the euperviaion of the Christchuroh Miniature Bifle Association, was won by C. Timbrell, Sumner {£l), who soored two possibles. The seoond prize of 10s was won by 8. 0. Hay, Sydenham, who soored one possible. The special prize of £1 Is, giren by Mr W. S. Wharton for the best aggregate of three shoots, was won. by C. Timbrell, Sumner, his scores being 85, 85, 84—total 104. The special price given by Major J. P. Oakes, T. 8., for highest soore durtkg the day, was won by C. Timbrell, Sumner (88) after a shoot oS with S. O.
