MOTOR DEALER'S BANKRUPTCY. (SPeciAL TO "THE rEESS.") GREYMOUTH, November 9. A meeting was held this afternoon of creditors of Henry Hazlehurst Smith, j n/jtor dealar, Greymouth, who had been adjudged bankrupt on the petition of the Savage Tyre and Rubber Company, Ltd., Wellington (in liquidation;, ihe statement or assets and liabilities 6uowed that the debts to unsecured creditors totalled £bi!oi, and to secured creditors £l4oo. 'ihe total assets were £2SU, represented by a dishonoured promissory note. The secured creditors are: The King, £IOOO, eaiiK ot iNew South Wales. Hokitika, £450. Ihe principal unsecured creditors are: Leyland .Motors Ltd., Wellington £I7OO, Barnet Glass Rubber Co., Chnstchurch, £400; Savage Tvre and Rubber Co., £325; Dominion Motors, Wellington, £250; Texas Oil Co., Wellington, £200; David Diednchs, Hokitika, £100; Harold Brown and Co., Wellington, £120; D. McLean Ltd., Greymouth, £6O. Bankrupt answered various questions, blaming alleged faulty supplies and the business slump for his failure. He denied that he owned racehorses, as Missland and Counter Attack were the property of his wife. Brunner Borough Election. An election to fill a vacancy on the Brunner Borough Council, fought mainly on the question of the amalgamation of the borough with the GreyCounty, took place yesterday. Very little interest was manifested. Mr Geoghagan (pro-countv), defeated Mr Fry (pro-borough), by 38 votes to 29. The Eewanui Slip. Clearing work at the slip on the Rewanui railway line has been impeded.by another slide of earth, which found its way to the line during the night. It is doubtful if the debris can be cleared before Monday, and more likely it will be Tuesday before trains will resume their normal running. Westport Golf Clut>. The final of the Westport Golf Club's ladies' championship, played between Mrs W. T. Slee and Mrs A. A. Wilson, at the Orowaiti course, ended in favour of Mrs Wilson by 4 up and' 3 to play. Personal. Colonel Young and Mr W. E. Leadley (secretary of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association) were present in Hokitika to-day at the unveiling of the Westland War Memorial. They will return to Christchurch tomorrow. Three months leave of absence was granted at last evening's meeting of the . Greymouth Borough Council, to Mr J. O'Donnell, borough engineer, owing to continued ill-health. . Obituary. The death of Albert Iseppi took place at the Old People's Home at Kumara on Wednesday. Deceased, who was a native of Switzerland, was 86 years of age. He had "been a resident of Rimu for many years, follow- | ing mining pursuits.
