THE NORTH CANTERBURY FREEZING COMPANY, LTD.

GREAT REStJLT OF FARMERS'

ENTERPRISE.

THE .N.C.F. EXHIBIT.

Some seven years ago in the midst of the then prevailing toil and turmoUspf war, a group or iNorth Canterbury tSheepfariners founded Tne .North Canterbury iaheeplarmers' Cooperative Freezing Company. They built their 'Works at Kaiapoi and built them well and truly, luey builcied even better than they thought. Their idea was to help their feiiow farmers to dispose of their products on they: own behalf and assist them to help themselves'. They have done this and more. A proof of their building is at the great Agricultural and Pastoral Show to-day, when visitors can see for themselves in the spacious marquee on the grounds, what the N.C.F. lias done and is doing for the farming community with which it is so intimately allied. It is an exhibit that should attract the attention'of every country visitor while it snould enlist his support. It is a great farmers' exhibit and proveß what co-operation linked with courage and, aforethought can do. The Freezing Department of the Company has sent forward but one exhibit, but that representation is sufficient in every respect. The lamb carcases are perfect in shape, size, and quality arid one need say no more. They fully—nay, more than fully—maintain the world-wide reputation that is signified by the name "Prime Canterbury." The name of the Company and the prices it gets for its products prove that there are none better qualified to uphold the reputation of New Zealand in this respect. A notable feature of the exhibit is the show of Wool after it has been washed and treated. This is especially interesting and has won great commendation from those who have seen it. In Tallow the uninitiated cannot olaim to see much difference, but the class of tallow shown here as turned out of the _N.C.F. Company's Works at Kaiapoi, is "claimed to be one of the best on the market. Seven years ago, few would have conceived it possible that these works, founded in the faceof so many difficulties would ,be able to turn out skins, • fit for any market in the^World. Yet this has been done, and it is interesting to note the exhibit. Manures are by no means one of the leaet by-products of the Company, and the supply of manures is on important matter with every agriculturist, who should inspect the samples shown. The whole exhibit is most creditable to the Company and to the province, and shareholders should feel proud today that they are part and parcel of an establishment that not only has achieved its aim, but has even excelled it. The 'N.C.F. is to be congratulated on its exhibit. It shows very simply what can be done when the products of the farm are handled by farmers themselves.
