OBITUARY.
Mr J. Mansell, late- secretary of the Otahuhu bowling Club, died a few* days ago alter a oriel: uineos. Ho was a member of tue New Zealand Jixpeditionary I'brce, and saw active service in Northern France, where he received a severe wound. Since his return to New Zealand he hail been a prominent member of tho i'apakura Golf Club, whose championship he won in He was also a member 01 the Otahuhu Gun Club and the Independent Order of Foresters. Mr John Hindmarsh, one of Napier* best known merchants, died at Dannevirke on Tuesday while on a -visit to his daughter. The- deceased had not been enjoying the best of health for somo time past. Since the occasion of the destruction of his residence at Green - meadows, when he escaped witu hii life after having suffered a severeshock and many burns, his health had been on the decline, but hk death was unexpected. The deceased, who was 65 years of age, came to New Zealand about 45 years ago in company with hi* parents, from South Australia. Hi> grandfather was llear-AOmiral Sir John Hindmarsh, who was first Governor and Commander-in-Chief of South Australia. The admiral was. a midshipman on board H.M.S. Victory at Trafalgar and later became the Recipient of many high orders and decorations. The deceased lived witn hi.s parents at Rukumoana for some lime and then came to Napier. He (x-'.r-: n his commercial career-with. Murray, Roberts and Co., of Wellington, and ua>< later transferred to the Napier branch of that firm. He entered trie business of the late Mr H. C. Itobjohns about 40 years a;;o as accountant, and not. long after became a partner. The firm was more recently turned into a limned company of which the deceased \\U3 managing director. Ke leaves a widow and grown up family of four sons and nine daughters.
