COUNTY COUNCILS.

At the laet meeting of the Amuri County Council there were present—Ore. H. Bethell (chairman), W. Harold .. Atkinson, H. T. Beaven, Jas. W. Black, H. It. Davison, It. Is Olero Latter, Ed. Mercer, and Godfrey O. Rutherford. Leave of absence was asked for and granted C. W. Hanrner Atkinson. Messrs Phillip® and McKay were given permiraion to lay water pipes in Hanmer Springs, subject to the usual conditions. The secretary of the Farmers' Union asked the Oouncil to undertake work on the Top-house-Hanmer road. It was decided to ask where the money should be spent on. such a large tract of road, and the amount of money available.

The engineer waa directed to attend to the water channel at the Kotherbam Hotel when teams were available.

Mr Griffiths complained of contractors using floodgates on his property to get access to shingle. It wns decided that the engineer should explain the matter. The resident engineer wrote that the Waiau siiJo of the Conway River bridge and approaches would now b« maintained by the Council.

It was decided to accept the offer of the Automobile Association for the supply of signboards for the heavy motor lorry traffic, and to strictly enforce the by-laws. The clerk showed the position of the outstanding rates, and it was decided) to flue all whose rates had) not been paid. The secretary of the North Canterbury Hospital Board suggested that c?r!ain longstanding ca&ob from toe Cbnstchurch .Hospital who do not require very much in the way of medical or surgical treatment be sent to the Amuri Hospital, Rojherham, so that the hospital could be used to the fullest advantage. The suggestion was unanimously endorsed. , J.J ■ , A report was received on the condition of the water-race, and it was decided to refer it to the Water-ra/C-e Committee with power * The'receipt* for the month were:—General rates £2639 15s id, maintenance account £7 10s 3d. The balances were reported to be as under:—County fund account cr £1415.12s 4d, maintenance account dr. £96 93, thirds account cr. £66 12s lid.
