W.E.A. ACTIVITIES.
TUTORIAL CLASS COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Tutorial Class Committee of Canterbury College was held on Monday evening, Dr. Charles Chilton presiding, and the following bejng present:—Dr. J. Hight, Messrs A. E. Blower, A. Oakenden, W. J. McCullough, R. Brooks, Profeasor J. B. Condliffe (secretary), and Mr Geo. Manning (assistant-secretary).
The chairman, on behalf of the committee, extended a welcome to Messrs F. O'Flynri and H. B«lehaw, M.A., who attended: by iiir vitation.
Mr Bebhaw described the work done on the West Coast this year, and stated that although the classes might not be so numerically strong as the city classes, great interest was shown, in the subjects lectured upon which were discussed by those attending them with their fellow miners who were not present. Mr O'Flynn said that it was very complimentary to tile work done by the W.E.A. that the local bodies on the West Coast had subscribed so liberally to the funds: in addition, they showed great interest in the work of the W.E.A. Tho innovation whereunder Mr Belshaw addressed the different debating societies had widened the scope and usefulness of the W.E.A. on the Coast, and there werj indications of even greater extension of the Association's activities.
Mir R. H. Tawney, on behalf of the Joint Advisory Council of Great Britain, wrote asking the committee to appoint a representative on that body. Professor CondLiffe was appointed. Mr Ball. Rangiora, having presented "The T.ife of William Cobbett" (two volumes) to tße library, the secretary was instructed to write thanking him for his gift.
