An explosion in the ReiL'y Coal Company's mine at Spang'er, Pennsylvania, . imprisoned' 94 men. The mine was sup- " posed to be free from gas, and consei quently the miners were not wearing ' oxygen helmets. The rescuers are endeavouring to clear the passages of gas. J] A previous message from New York ( said: A mining disaster is reported. . Details as to the locality have not arF rived. The exhumed dead bodies now total 71, and men rescued living 33, all of wiiom are dangerously ill through gas poisoning. The disaster is assuming proportions which will probably make it one of the worst in the history of American coal mining.]
