McOLEAST V. WHITAKEE. Boxing enthusiasts throughout the Dominion are greatly interested filths contest between Brim McCleary, of Cnristchurch, and Cyril Whitaker, of Wellington, which is to take place at King Edward Barracks on Saturday next. The natch ia for.the lightheavy premiership, and a puree of £2OO put up by the Christchurch Sports Club. The Wellington representative has shovn much improvement since he met McCleary last Easter, on which occasion he put up a good fight but lost on points. He recently defeated Albert Pooley, of. Auckland, most decisively in the contest at New.Plymouth, winning thirteen out of the fifteen rounds, and on the form shown many experts predict that he will defeat McCleary when they meet. McCleary, the local man, is in great heart, and is thoroughly enjoying his work. Bis supporters are more than pleased wltn the way he has come through his preparation, and are quietly confident that he will again secure the verdict. The club is putting on some first-class amateur bouts as preliminaries to the chief event. There will be three bouts each of six rounds, and soma interesting boxing;' should be seen. An innovation, as far as the club is concerned, will be ft "community sing," which starts at 7.3Q p.m. Messrs T. M. Charters and A. Brown will act as leaders of the singing.
