MEN'S TEIAL MATCHES. Saturday was given over to trial matches in order to enable the selectors to make the final selections of the teams to play against Otago on Saturday next. The senior match wae played at Lancaster Park, where the game was fairly even ior i the first spell, and the A team notched two ] goals to the B team's one. In the second half the A team attacked for nearly the whole spell and registered three more goals, the final score being:—A team 5 goals, B team 1 goal. Messrs R. Gracie and M. Bngg refereed. The score was two goals all. Tho weather was beautiful, and the ground was fairly last, and tho attendance was large. The gamwas, on the whole, fast and interesting with Nelson attacking for the greater part of tho time, but solid defence by. the visitors' backs combined with mistakes at tho critical moment frustrated most endeavours to score. Tho first goal was obtained by Nelson after 20 mintues' play, Cassel sending in a hot shot., A little later frcm a corner hit C. Watts evened scores, which were unchanged et the end of the spell. The second half was fast and interesting, Nelson attacking almost continuously, though Auckland on occasions broke away and became dangerous. Nelson, lost good opportunities to score' through overeagerness and off-side play. In the last ten minutes Auckland became aggressive and gave Nblbou a lively time, sending in several likely shots in- quick succession. Eventually from a scramble Carr goaled. Nelson made drape-rate efforts to score, and from a faßt forward rush Dee oocred from a very difficult angle, the whistle going immediately afterwards. WELLINGTON (2) V. WAIEAEAPA (PBJSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) MASTEETON, August 27. ■Wellington defeated Wairarapa by 2 goals to 1. The game was fairly even throughout, though tho visitors showed the more combination. (1 The second match between the Waimairi. and Wharenui teams, who-had finished level, in the competition and had drawn in the first match in the final, was played at Hagley Park before a large crowd of spectators. A fast and exciting match was won by Wharenui by two goals to one. Mrs Skudder and Miss I. Johnston scored for Wharenui and Miss J. Cooper for Waimairi. Messrs H. Throp and S. G.
