THE HAYNE CASE.

PROCEEDINGS DISCONTINUED. The Crown Law authorities haive decided not to proceed further with the charges against James Reynold Hayne, chemist, of Dunedin. The indictments against Hayne were as follows: (1) That at Timaru on November sth, 1921, he unlawfully killed one Violet Ada Atkins, thereby committing the crime of manslaughter, and (2) that at Dunedin on October 7th, 1921, he unlawfully used an instrument or other means upon Violet Ada Atkins, with intent to procure a miscarriuge. Hayne was three times tried, twice during the February sessions and again last week, and on each occasion the jury disagreed. Mr A. C. Hanlon, of Dunedin, appeared for Hayne at each trial.
