FAMOUS IRISH REGIMENTS.

DISBANDMENT ORDERED. •An official statement was recently made that the Government had decided to disband the following Irish regiments: The Royal Irish Regiment, t!he Royal Irish Fusiliers, the Connaught Rangers, the Prince of Wales' Leinster Regiment, the Royal Munster Fusiliers, the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, and the South Irish Horse. The six infantry regiments consist of regular and special reserve battalions.' Tne South Irish Horse, of which tuic Duke of Connaught is honorary colonel, is a special reserve regiment of cavalry. The Royal Irish Regiment, the old 16tn Foot, the Royal Irish Fusiliers (the 87thand 89th), and the Connaught Rangers (.the 88th and 94th) haye each two regular battalions and two'special reserve, or militia,,battalions. .The other tliree infantry regiments consist of two regular and three special reserve battalions apiece. On the long list of. battle honours of these historic regiments appears th.9 names of most of Marilborougla's and Wellington's battles and almost all of later date. All the regiments served with distinction in South Africa and in the Great War. The Aldershot "News" remarks that it is worthy of note that the Royal l Ulster Rifles and the Royal Inniskiilnig Fusiliers, which ha% r e a special territorial association with Ulster, are not included in the list of "regiments to bo disbanded. - There is a possibility of the 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards and the Bth King's Royal Irish Hussars also being disbanded.
