/ meeting of committee. The General Committee of the Navy League (Canterbury branch) met on Thursday night, Mr H. J. Marriner (chairman) presiding over a large attendance. The financial statement showed the credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand to be £132 lis Sd, tho .credit balance at the Post Office Savings Bank £523 15s Id, Sea Training Fund interest Post Office Savings Bank £97 2s sd, and suspense account, J. Armstrong account war fund £2 10s. Receipts totalled £5677 15© 4d and expenditure £435 08 Bd. __ Tho Rev. E. C. Crosse and Messrs E. H. Wills and T. R. Quill were elected to the General Committee. _ T Messrs H. J. Marrinor, W. Walton, J. JDougall, A. C. Maxwell, and Trevor Foster were appointed, a Finance Committee, and Miss Saunders, Prof. Blunt, and Messrs Walton, A. K. Anderson, and D. J. Lancaster were elected to the Essays Committee. The chairman extended a welcome to *the now members. He understood tlcre nadi boen a very serious split in the Navy League in England in regard to the newly advocated policy. The body responsible for it had practically recorded a vote of censure, and he thought that the Christchurch Branch should refrain from adopting a decisive policy until tho parent body had given its decision. Batchelor as treasurer of the Wax Fund account. The secretary reported that 27 schools had been given copies of the Jack Cornwall picture. Mr Maxwell said that the .qualifications for the picture, £0 per cent, of 4th, sth, and 6th Standards to be members of the League, was rather hard on town schools. He enquired how many town schools had the picture.- f The secretary stated that, as yet, no town schools had qualified. _ On Mr MaxwelTs motion, it was decided ] that one-third of sth ana 6th Standards should qualify the town schools for the picture. In regard to. country schools, the original motion was made to apply to them only. It was eleo resolved that one-third of the total Toll of a secondary school should qualify it for, thi» picture. _ It was decided to affirm the principle that an appeal be ma.de to the public in October next. Formal authority' was passed for the paying over of £505 to the Boy Scoots' Association as per the resolution of special meeting of March 2.3rd, in connexion with the [ Sea Scout movement. Advice was received , that each of the boats provided with the ! money would have on it a plate with •an inscription stating that it waa the contribution of the League. ' ' ' The secretary reported, in connexion with ■s circular letter sent to the'various centres, asking if they were in favour of a New Zealand conference, that GiaboTne was the only one which had opposed the proposal. It was decided to send the correspondence to the Wellington Centre, a? it is proposed to hold the conference" in thai district.
