At the Paris Conservatoire a violinist jjlayed in turn six old violins and six modern ones, the room being; completely darkened, and the order being decided by lot. The audience afterwards voted, and two modern violins came first, with 1090 and 1004 votes, then a Strndivariiis with 1000, and a Guadagnini with 822.
