BOXING.

CANTERBURY COLLEGE CLUB. Tha Canterbury College Boxing Club held a series of trials on Saturday evening for the purpose of the final selection of the team to represent the College in the Easter tournament at Auckland. The judges were Dr. W. H. Simpson and Mr C. T. Aschman, and the referee Mr T. E. Robooa. Feather-weight. D. Jeune <9st) defeated H. L. I/ucena (9st 4lb). The first round was not very interesting, but Lucena made things very willing in the last two rounds. Heavy-weight. P. L. B. Williams (13st) defeated J. B. Jackson (12st 81b) in a very exhausting bout. Jackson had the best of the first round, but Williams opened the second round with gTeat determination. Very hard hitting by both men saw them very groggy by the end of the second round. Williams did most of the leading, and in the third round he scored freely, the referee stopping the bout. Exhibition Bouts. Brian McCleary, amateur heavy-weight champion of Australasia, who has now turned professional, boxed two twominute rounds with S. Craven (12st). This was a most interesting bout, and should prove of great value to the Canteibury College man, whoso chances of winning the inter-University heavy-weight contest are regarded as excellent. Immediately after this bout, McCleary boxed two rounds with E. A. Lawther, who showed good form. Middle-weight. J. Dugdale (list 41b) defeated .T. O. Eiddell (list 4lb). Some of Dugdale's hits were very wild, but he won by a narrow -margin on points. Light-weight. S. Farqubarson (9st 8lb) defeated H. W. R. Black (lOst 3lb). Black made a good showing against his more experienced opponent, who won fairly comfortably on points. N. C. Eapson (Sst 91b) defeated J. M. Stewart (9st 21b) in a rather uninteresting bout. Welter-weight. H. H. E. Oabb (lOst 7lb) defeated D. J. Miller, piling up a substantial lead in points before the contest was stopped by the L. K. de Eoo (lOst 61b) met F. TV. Petre (lOst 91b). The pair were very even, and the first round was without incident. The second round was interrupted by the failure of the lighting system. The bout went to Petre. "Of particular interest to associations," states the annual report of the Wellington Boxing Association, "is the new rule providing for North and South Island championships, with the winners competing at the Ne'v Zealand Championships. At the conference a scheme of finance was adopted which should prove satisfactory. It is wcthy of note that these Island championships may not be held in any of the main centres, while the New Zealand meeting must be held in one of the main centres.
