KAOE FOR THE CXJMMINGS CUP. The strong north-easterly wind and rough weather on Saturday had their effect on Ecdclifis yachtsmen, as only five yachts over 18. feet lined up for the sixth race of a aeries for the Cummings Cup. Tha race, which wag heid under tile auspices of the Christchuroh bailing and Power .Bout Club, over a £even-mile course, started at ii.'lo p.in. Mishaps were numerous, and the couipetitwia had a wet passage. All the emit were reefed dov/n. Kiwi lost 13 minutes »t the getaway owing to hor rudder breaking, and on the run to the fieathcote. buoy, which lloana, with Swallow close, rounded hrsi, Kiwi's gaif parted, necessitating her withdraway irom the contest. Ihe wind was bioivnig so hard that Alpha's jib was blown, away on the beat from Skylark Island, and Moana'a and Swallow's halyards parted. On the run to the Avon buoy, jibs were taken in. Swallow passed Alpha after coming about and maintained her lead on the beat home. ' The judge's placihgs and the finishing times were: Swallow (J. Abemethy), Bmin 15sec (4hr 32min 21sec) .. .. .. 1 Alpha (S. Hubert), 7min SOsec (4hr 35min 24sec) .. .. .. ..2 Mcana (G. Andrews), scr (4hr 43min losec) 3 Kiwi, lamin (A. Brown), a recent acquisition to the fleet, and Q.P., 19min (A. \Vhittley) also started,, but did not ocmplete the course. Swal'ow secured fastest time.
