GARDEN FETE COMMITTEE.

The committee responsible for the Garden Fete to be hold in the Botanic Gardens on Saturday are more than pleased with tho way in which the. arrangements are progressing. Mr J. W. Irwin, sefcretary of the Hagley Park Golf Club, reported that over 100 members will assist at the tea and iceoream tents, gifts of cakea, etc., for. whioh have been received in large ; quantities from various tradespeople. The tea tent, which is said to ue quite the largest in the I>ominion, will accommodate 1000 people. Tickets may be purchased from members of tho Hagley Park Golf Club. Goiters will be interested in the clock golf putting competition, which will be held on the front lawn near the Museum. Mr Irwin stated that he had not met with a single refusal for contributions from those he had approached. Arrangement® had been made for donors to leave eatables, etc., at the curator's house, and cash with Mr Irwin, P.O. box 199 or with-Mr E. J. Taylor., 108 Gloucester Btreet.

Mr R. B. Owen reported that l the Woolston Band will play a fine programme of music on the rround near the fountain, and it is "hoped that a troupe of pienots will perform in the French military tent on the archery lawn. The tent itself should be a source of much interest. The platform erected on the lake in the children's playground will be the scene of a continuous display of physical dri'l and attractive dancing. The tiny tots from tne Phillipstown Kindergarten will dance the Maypole and take part in a number cf games., This will be followed by an exhibition of physical drill by the senior girls of the Bomo-rfield "Eihool. A quartet from the Caledonian Society is to dance Highland dances, and boys from the Somerfield school will give a drill display under their headmaster, Mr S. Clark. Classical and other dances will be given hy Miss Mac Donald's pupils. Mr James Young, curator of the Gardens, reported that he had' arranged for numerous side-shows and other attractions 'to be provided.. The committee are satisfied that they will be amply rewarded for their efforts * when they f are given the opportunity of seeing the children's playground on the day; it is fully equipped.
