SPORTING.

The nominations for the Ohinemuri Jockey Club's meeting should make interesting reading for the club. In four races of the vr.luc of L'OO sove each, tho respective entries in each case aggregate 60, thus providing twenty-five per cent, of tho stake-money. With a good response from owners on acceptance day in these particular races, quite half the fctake-money will have been provided by the owners themselves. Gasbag's name appears amongst the entries for tho Napier Cup and McVay Memorial Handicap, the latter the principal race on the second day of the Napier Park Kacing Club meeting. Gasbag's last rare was the St. Leger Stakes nearly a year atro, when he was second to Duo, with Listowel in third place. Gasbag, who is a four-year-old brown colt by Demosthenes- Lady Cilia, promised to be in the front rank, and it is to be hoped that he comes through a preparation without mishap. Rational lias been entered for the Opunake Cup of One mile and a quarter, so there is evidently an idea of making tho three-year-old son of Absurd and Cowl into cr. stayer. Alteration's name, too, figures in the list; possibly his owner has been encouraged by the successes of Ngata. It was cabled that J. Pike is to ride Splfanello in the Newmarket Handicap on Saturday next. A writer in the Svdney "Referpe" had stated that A. Wood was to have the mount on the Solferino gelding, but as both Pike and Wood are in tne first flight, whoever has the mount, Solfanello should not fail on the score of horsemanship. The three-year-old chestnut filly Ditchley, by Boniform—Puttee, has j been accorded a nomination in' the Marlborough Cup. Ditchley won her only two races this season, but unfort-: unately met -with a mishap and for a | time it >vas thought that she would not race again. Evidently it has been found that she will stand a, preparation t .and I as her numerous admirers claimed the Boniform filly to be much above the average, she should be worth' watching. There are thirty-one acceptors for the V.R.C. Newmarket Handicap on Saturday next. Eurythmic. has been relieved of his engagement in tho Australian Cup, but stands bis ground in the six furlong event for which ho is sure to start a hot favourite. Ho • will need none of the bad luck of the race to prevail with lOst 31b, a remark whicti may also be applied to New Zealand's sole survivor, Solfanello. ' Twenty-six have been left in tho Australian Cup, evidence that there is a fair proportion of horses in Australia that have shown. Bome signs of being able to run out two miles and a quarter. Complex, the winner of the Hurdles at.Dannevirke yesterday, is a five-year-: ■ old gelding by Guiunforte—Canary Creeper. He had a first and a third to his credit at the last Taranaki meeting and was made a good favourite on the second day at Wanganui_ last _ week, when his rider lost his irons in the course of the raceWarpath is an aptly named two-year-old colt' by Martian—Rouge, raced by the. Kick Off, the winner of the Rakaiatai Wrfter, is a well-bred three-yoar-old colt "by{All Black—JW Rosamond.
