IN THE GARDENS.
LATE SUMMER POLIAGE. A stroll throurfi the Botanic Gardens at present reveals in full the beauties of late summer foliage. The Gardens oie undoubtedly looking very fine and are well worthy of a visit, especially on Saturday afternoon next, wfhen the big garden fete, under th auspices of the Christchurch Domains Board, will be held. As the primary object of this fete is to provide funds for the improvements of tho children's playground, it is well worthy of support apart altogether from the many attractive features, which will be presented. The classic and fancy dancing by a oorps of little girls on the delicate green sward will alone be worth going a long .way to see.' The Woolston Band' will be in attendance, and there will be a string orchestra in tho tea tent, Btated to be the .largest in New Zealand.
