HEAVY THUNDERSTORM IN DUNEDIN.

DUNEDIN, February 28
A heavy thunderstorm was experienced in Dunedin and the surrounding country shortly after noon to-day. The rain fell in a regular deluge and the street channels were quickly turned into rivulets. A certain amount of damage was do.ue in the cellars of business premises, but on the other hand the rain will do an immense amount of good in the country. The thermometer fell from 80 decrees to' 68 degrees in an hour, and threequarters of an inch of rain fell in half an hour. Some of the hailstones measured half an inch in diameter.
There were further heavy downpours later in the afternoon, and also in the evening.
