BANKS PENINSULA POWER BOARD.
• At the monthly meeting of the Pen insula Power Board there were present: Messrs A. Goodwin (ohairmanjj, Geo. Armstrong, J. D. £iUoe,'J. Chap man, and W. F. Parkinson. Agologiea were received from Mr J. R. Thacker and iMr J, Templin, consulting electrical engineer. Mr Parkinson reported th&t permission had been given by Wilson's Estate trustees to take what trees were required from the plantations, Toe residents in Kaikoura and tiebbie'a Valley, having been informed by the Post and Telegraph Department that they themselves would nave to bear the cost of shifting telephone lines where hightension wire* were to cross them, contended that the Board should pay for the work. • Consideration of the matter was deferred until next meeting. The chairman reported that a generous response had been made by Little .River residents to the oanvass carried out by Mr Chapman and himself. "■ The chairman and Messrs Chapman, Parkinson, and the engineer, were appointed a sub-committee to deal with the transport of poles to the Bays by sea. In connexion with poles it was stated that all thoso needea for the main line as far as Takamatua were on hand, and that over 200 more were now ready at Purau. Mr Templin was authorised to deal with tenders for transformers, and an alternating current generator at the Akaroa plant. It, was pointed out that every effort was being made to get the main line to Akaroa before the end of the year. The Public Works Department forwarded the Order-in-Council , sanctioning the purchase by the Board of the Akaroa municipal electric plant. The Department notified that the maximum retail rates of lOd for light,, and 6d for heat and power, as set out in the. license, could not be raised, as suggested by the Board, to la and 6d respectively, in the Board's license. The.. Railway Department wrote pointing out that the rights of the Department's tenants had not been considered when the' Board had created a line of poles for softie 2} miles on railway land between Motukarara < and Kaituaa. The . matter was. referred to the engineer.— . On the motion of Mr Armstrong, it was decided that the engineer ,be aaked to report at next meeting ,as to whether the Board could taxe over the Akaroa plant in October.

IjS6 35ft poles had ' been erected between Priced Valley and Western Valley roads. Little Biver —undoubtedly the moat d.fficult section in the whole district; and 118 30ft, 26ft, 24ft poles between Kaituna &nd Little River. A ceoosd wiring gang had been recently put on up the Kaituna Valley. The carting of poles and material had gone on in very satisfactory fashion, Mr Macartney's traction plant having don© all the work so far without a single mishap. All the trans, formers had arrived at the Aldington, sub-station, and had Tjeen miule to get the number required to complete the Motukarara and Kaituna sections drjed out and sent forward.'
