The Pacific mail contract with the Burns, Philp Co., has been renewed temporarily, at £50,000 per annum, being an addition of £IO,OOO. The Mataram is being placed on the run to New Guinea. LORD NOBTHOLEETE. | i SYDNEY, September 9. Lord Northcliffe visited the newspaper offices, and was entertained by the Journalists' Association. • He visited the Legislative Assembly, and was given a seat on the floor of Parliament. Speaking at a Press Club reception, Lord Nortlicliffo paid a tribute to the accuracy of the Press comments in connexion with British pub,lio affairs, "seeing you are 12,000 miles away on the other side of the cable barrier, which 1 hope we shall be able to break down."
ANGLICAN CHURCH AND PROHIBITION. (Received /"September 9th, 7.30 p.m.) ADELAIDE, September 9. The Anglican Synod discussed a motion in favour of prohibition, Tho clerical section adopted it, and the lay section negatived it, by small majorities. As a majority in each section was required in its favour, the motion was lost.
