REPATRIATION BOARD.

' FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. A meeting of the Oapteribury. Repatriation Board waa held last evening. Present— Messrs A. F. Drayton (chairman), P. Da-vioV son, H. 8. J. Goodman, F. T. Eldridge, W. Gosa, F. W. Hobbs, and J. A. Clarke. The resignation of Mr N. B. McGallum u a member of the Board waa, received, he baring been transferred to the West Coast. It was decided to write to Mr McOallum thanking him for his services on the Board during the past two years. The chairman stated that he had l written to the Director of Repatriation, Wellington, giving details, of an area-of 264 acres beyond Avonhead, which was for sale at £4O per acre. He> had pointed out in the letter that, in view of the large number of men at jAvonhead and, Cashmere, it waa imperative that suitable Land be secured to enable these men to make a start next eeasoni. He hod asked the Director to interview the Minister of Lands, pointing out the necessity for the purchase of this block for the settlement of partially disabled soldiers; The block could probably be subdivided into SO sections, (ranging in area from, fivie acres upwards. Mr Drayton said that the Board would now keep the matter before the Government until somethihs was done. Mr Goodman reported that the Sustenance and Furniture Committee had received 82 applications for'granta, 29 of which had been granted and two declined. The Trades, Tools, and Equipment Oon> anittee (Mr Hobbs) reported that eight appli. cations had been received for grantev Fiv» had been declined and three held over.
