LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Lyttelton Harbour Board met at.Lyttelton yesterday. Present—Messrs H. B. Sorenson (chairman), T. A. Bkckley, T, D. Boag R, Galbraitb, J. Flood, F. Horrett, H, Macartney, S. K. Sleigh, W. J. Walter, H. Holland, the Hon. R. Moore, andDl.Thaokar. The trweuror's statement showed that since laet meeting £15,329 7e 9d had been paM into the harbour fund account. The amount fox the corresponding period of last year waa £11,854 9s 7d. There was a net debit of £3053 19s 8d on the two acoounte. The engineer leported that the dredge Canterbury had been engaged working with the cutter* principally on the hard l ground ,oppo> site Goflan's Bay, and had a quantity of 153,025 tons the whole_ of which, had been pumped into the reclamation aieai. This dredge was slopped for want of coal on Janitt(try 18th, and waa docked for overhaul on January 25th. . The Deputy-Superintendent of the State Advanoes Office wrote that difficulty could ■be anticipated in granting the Board's application for a loan of £150,000, in conseuerice of the present shortage of money, and he asked if the loan was necessary at present. In'reply, the secretary wrote stating that the loan waa necessary, and pointed out that improvement works had been held in abeyance during the war. He detailed the improvements intended to be carried out. The .ißoard approved the action of the secretary. The engineer recommended the acceptance of Messrs Brown and Dureau's tender for the sum of £33,155 for four cranes. The estimated total cost of the four cranes when erected was £35,755. The tenders were accepted. The engineer waa instructed' to make enquiries' with a view to obtaining a laboursaving plant, for wharf purposes. The electrical engineer of the Public Works Department, Christchurch, wrote stating that there was not at present any eleotrio power available for cranes and capstans, but that it waa expected that a full supply would be available by July next. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Macartney, that if possible a deputation from the Board should arrange to meet the Minister of Publio Works, to impress on him the necessity cf getting morn eUctrio power.
