Tho report of the sub-committee of tho 'Works and Sanitary Committee on the control and investigation of. infectious diseases and disinfectants, as presented to the City Council last night, stated that tho work would be better done by the Health Department, although tho general /nuisance inspection should bo carried out by tho city inspcctob, as at present, in addition to which work tho inspectors carried) out numerous duties unacr tho city bylaws, such as the licensing of kerosene! dealers, registration of dogs, etc, Tho " report mentioned tint the Health Officer reported that in his opinion a. minimum of four health inspectors would b» required to carry out the ivork of sanitary inspection, "but if tho Council dele- - jyitv-d its powers regarding tho control of infectious diseases only to his Department the Department would undertake tho whole of that work for tlia *ui» of £473'3s 8d per annum, and lb *vuV considered that that would be the most satisfactory way of solving tho difficulty. The report was adopted. Seventy years in a choir is tho tscors or Lord Bledisloo's gardener, who has been a member of tit* Mary's Parish Church, Lydney, for that length of titoe.
