The main object of '.he journey is to gain information as to the most recent methods of forest utilisation and tho management of municipal. forests (telegraphs our correspondent). The Dunedin Corporation hos been pinuting trees on its water reserves for tho past sixteen years. Now these plantations have reached the stage at which a scientific thinning out is necessary, nnd it is important that in this' thinning out the Corporation should comply with the latest knowledge as to how to nso the thinning to advantage. Apparently, tho only uso the Government can put the thinnings to is to make, firowood and scaffold polee. It is thought that better uses can be found, and it is on that point that Mr Tannock is going to enquire and observe, also generally pick up knowledge as to the management of forests.
