NEW YORK, December 10. i A sensational triple lynching occurj red at Santa Rosa, a suburb of San j Francisco. i During recent weeks San Franciscohas been roused over the op.-rations of a gang of ex-pugilists, who kidnapped ; girls and took them to a lonely house, where they were terribly maltreated. ' Tho police* broke up tho gang after LO j •■•iris had been assaulted. Subsequent- j Fy, they traced the gang to Santa Kosa. ■ A* pitched battlo with revolvers lollowcd, in which three San Francisco detectives w. re shot, dead before nion were captured and lodged in tho Santa Jlosa gaol on Sunday last. i Yesterday morning a posso of ol) masked men visited the gaol and removed three of the prison.-rs, ' IJoytl, Fitts, and Tarento. and hanged them on n single branch of a tree Five companions of the lynched men arrested with them, wrr; removed from the custody of tho San Francisco ! police and placed in charge of the State , ■officials. The Chief of Police js inI vo*ti'?ating statements thnt policemen ; 1 and friends of the murdered officers j narticinated in the lynching. There are j indications that it was prearranged. No j I resistance was made by the gaol oft;- j < cials nt Santa Rosa when tho. lynchers ■ I arrived, and the motors conveyin<r them received nn ovation on .returning from tlieir mission of vengeance. Tho belief is that the dend policemen's friends took this method of dealing the severest warning to members of the San Francisco underworld.
