The metal workers struck in sympathy. The suspension of traffic 1 threatens the city's food supplies. ' BRITISH KAILWAYMEN. 3 LONDON, November 7. 1 Mr J. H. Thomas, sneaking at Hull, J?aid the majority of the railwaymen's delegates favoured a strike; to assist the miners, lie opposed a strike U'cause such a step would lead to social chaos and bloody revolution. He did not believe that social wrongs could be removed by a bloody upheaval. The country was never in a more dangerous position. Nine members of tho crew of the Commonwealth steamer Billata wero convicted on charges of disobedience and combining to impede the navigation of the ship, and sentenced to from four to twelve weeks' imprisonment each.
