WELLINGTON, September 6. ."I want to assure you that wo do not intend to raise a compulsory loan for public works purposes," said tho Prime Minister to an Auckland deputation today. "There will be a loan for soldiers' land settlement and for cleaning-un in connexion with the war, and probably a Bill authorising tihis loan will contain a compulsory but I am of opinion that there is sufficient patriotic feeling among the people possessed of capital in this country to ensure that the money required Will be. provided without the compulsory clause being put into operation.
