FRUITGROWERS' CLASSES.
--i The classes of instruction under the auspices of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association were continued last night,'when the president of the Aesociation, Mr F. W. Cone, presided over a good attendance. The lecturer was the Government ist, Mr George Stratford, who epoke on -Buds, Flowers, and Fruit." In the course of a very interesting oddroes, Mr Stratford dotailed the functions of each o£ the subjects of his lecture, with particular reference to the pollination and. fertilisation of tlie flowor, and. the resuit of tho action of beea upon tne blossoms. He dealt also with the- work of spraying, and with-the peste incidental to bude, flowers, and fruit, describing the best methods of dealing with them. Tho lecturer illustrated his remarks with a. number of interesting and explanatory diagrams. At the 'conclusion of his address he answered a, number of questions, and wa3 then accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The cla3 ces be continued on tho nest three iSandays, and the present season's aeri-oe will then cease.
